Welcome to The Arts Society Mid Cornwall

We are a group of people who enjoy art in all its various forms. Our Society is affiliated to The Arts Society.

Our objective, through lectures, discovery days and visits, is to broaden our knowledge and enjoyment of the decorative and visual arts. At our lecture meetings we hear experts, chosen for their knowledge, presentational skills and entertainment value, speak on a huge variety of topics. These include architecture, artists and designers, china, glass, painting, music, furniture, sculpture, jewellery … and much more, covering prehistory to modern times.
Click here to see the 2026 Illustrated Programme.

The Visits may include country houses, exhibitions, gardens and places of interest. For those who enjoy hearing about a subject in greater depth, we have Discovery Days which allow the speakers more time on their subject.

This website shows the full extent of our activities so, why not take the time to have a tour and perhaps we’ll see you at one of our meetings?

Go to the tab 'What's On' above and click on lectures to find out more about who is coming to speak to us and what they are talking about.

Our lecture meetings are in Wadebridge Town Hall on second Wednesday of the month, starting at 2.30 pm.  We look forward to seeing you there.  Find Directions to Wadebridge Town Hall here.

Visitors and members' guests are welcome.  Please let us know if you wish to bring a friend or family member by telephoning Sue Ferguson on 07771 766089 or email her at sueferguson1995@me.com

We look forward to welcoming everyone coming to the hall and invite you to stay for a chat with a cup of tea and biscuits afterwards.

The Arts Society Mid Cornwall used to be known as The Arts Society Bodmin, or "Bodfas".  In February 2024 we changed our name, better to reflect our membership and our new venue location in Wadebridge.

The Arts Society Mid-Cornwall will continue to maintain sensible measures to keep everyone feeling comfortable and safe. The seats will be well spaced, we are lucky we have lots of room in Wadebrdige Town Hall.  We ask that if you feel unwell or have a temperature, please stay at home.

NEXT LECTURE

 Wednesday 9th September

Tinker, Tailor, Canvas, Chair: how Modernism became a Cold War secret agent.

with James Vaux

We hope you have been enjoying our unusually sunny June weather and keeping cool and busy watering your gardens.  We now have a break in our activities for the summer months, July and August. Our next lecture will be on 9th September, the first of our exciting Autumn series.

James Vaux will give us a fascinating talk about the secret history of how the U.S. wielded art as a Cold War weapon and the CIA’s covert use of Abstract Expressionism and Mid-Century Modern design to sway European opinion, turning culture into propaganda in one of art history’s most surprising chapters.
