Dear Members,

We were all disappointed to learn that we were going back into lockdown just a couple of weeks after our next super live lecture in Wadebridge Town Hall by Geri Parlby in October.   Unfortunately the Zoom lecture in November by Mark Cottle had to be postponed and Graham Jones stepped (or was it marched?) into the breach with a well illustrated talk about the Art of Ceremonial Music.

Many of you will be familiar with the amazing Zoom technology, which allows us to chat to our families and friends and hold meetings through the internet.  For those who have not used it before, don’t worry. Our Zoom lecture in December will be held at the normal time, 2.30 pm on Wednesday 9th December. Tobias Capwell will try to convince us that,

“Nothing says Christmas Like an Axe Fight” !

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

·       Our September lecture from Howard Smith on the extraordinary cinematographer, Leni Riefenstahl, will be available for you to watch at home from 7th September to 13th September on Youtube.  The link will be emailed to you in the next few days.

·        On Wednesday 9th September at 7.00 pm, The Arts Society Truro invites you to their on-line Zoom lecture. Professor Marie Conte-Helm will give a talk about the Arts of Japan.  We will send you an email with further details and the link early next week.  Keep the evening free, it will be a fascinating lecture.

·        The first The Arts Society Lunchtime Lecture will be on Friday 18th September at 1PM from Mary Sharp on “The Fall into Knowledge: the story of Prometheus and how his plight has influenced writers and artists over the years” There will be four of these free monthly on-line lunchtime lectures for members this Autumn. There is no special link to watch the films. Members simply need to go to The Arts Society's YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/c/theartssociety at the advertised time. The lectures will be live and only available to watch at that time. As an Arts Society member, you may share the link with family and friends.

Many of us have had to learn new technology thanks to this pandemic. You may well have heard of Zoom, it has almost become the industry standard for meetings and online lectures. The equivalent of ‘Hoover’ to describe a vacuum cleaner! It is safe, secure, and perfectly easy to use. You can watch the Truro lecture very simply with great clarity of image. We give simple instructions in the August newsletter on how to use Zoom for those not familiar with the technology,

Dear Arts Society Members,

 I do hope you are getting on well and staying safe.  We are all having to adapt to our restricted circumstances and find new ways of keeping busy and entertained during these testing times. 

At The Arts Society Bodmin we thought we would produce a newsletter to share with you some fun things in the arts which might interest and amuse you while we cannot meet for lectures. Please go to this link to read it.

We very much hope that we will be able to resume our lecture programme after the summer break.  In the meantime, we will keep in touch with our newsletter.  We will also put information on our website. Please email me if you have ideas or links others might enjoy.

The revised Constitution of BODFAS was unanimously approved and adopted at the EGM of the society on 14 November 2018. The document may be seen in the "documents"  section of the "About Us" section or by clicking on this link.

The Chairman would like to thank all who had an input in producing this document.

At the AGM on 8th November 2017 the members approved a resolution that the society should operate under the name "The Arts Society Bodmin" from 1st January 2018.
